Relive Your Business Success Story
Are we not due for a little celebrating with all the hurricane disasters, war in practically every country, our time schedules booked to the max?
If you are reading this, it means you are “alive” afterall and good things are going to happen to you and meĀ today!
Recently I was up until 4:45 A.M. working on a copywriting project for a client. I don’t even remember my head hitting the pillow. Amazingly, I couldn’t even sleep past 9:15.
Why? Because I couldn’t wait to get started on today’s celebration!
And, every day should be a celebration.
Here are three ways to help you realize this if you’re one of the many who might need a pick-me-up this week.
Party Tip #1: Know You DO Make a Difference
We’ve all been there. Sometimes a day just happens exactly the same as the last. Another week passes and we’re still where we were this time last week.
Sometimes we wonder if what we do with our days really has an impact or not.
If you subscribe to my Tuesday Triplet list, you’re probably in charge of something. Maybe you own or operate a business of your own or manage someone’s company or are working on completing that book or the world’s next great keynote.
If you’re one of the lucky ones, you get continuous feedback from customers about how you’ve changed their lives.
But, so many in business feel trapped and directionally impaired.
Today, I invite you to celebrate the fact that you really do make a difference no matter what product you offer or service you provide.
Even if you’ve only had one sale in the past month, that one recipient is now better off because of what you provided them whether 5 years ago or 5 hours ago.
In fact, there may well be some people out there that you’ve touched and you will never know about it.
I was talking with one of the many that sat in on a Marshall Thurber’s tele-seminar. It was exactly what this person needed after several months of soul searching and misdirection…and just plain hard luck.
Many others listened to that call and were positively impacted that I’ll never know about.
I just have to know in my heart that I made a difference by a simple recommendation for them to attend the call.
You can do the same. Whatever role you serve, you are providing someone else with something better by the products and services you offer.
You may not always hear how you’ve helped them, but you have.
Celebrate every day knowing that when you get up in them morning, you’re going to make a difference.
Party Tip #2: Remember a Milestone and Celebrate it
In the October 24 edition of the Westword in 1995, I ran my first classified ad for $12.50 with the title, Musicians Wanted. Today, Music Mates continues to grow as one of the largest on-line musician referrals in the country.
Every ounce of helpful advice I’ve ever shared here is as a result of that milestone…and we look forward to the celebration that awaits.
But, it was today [October 24 when this was first written] at 12:45 pm at a small restaurant on Colorado Blvd 12 years ago that I conceptualized the idea for Music Mates.
And, today, I’ll be celebrating that!
What milestones can you think of in your business’ history?
Make a list. Write down their dates and times. Make a point to bring them out and celebrate those special times, even if it only means going out to lunch.
When you need a pick-me-up, think of something that happened 12 years ago, or 12 days ago…it doesn’t matter. The point is to celebrate!
Party Tip #3: Toast the Future
Great things will happen to you and your business if you expect them to.
This past January 2009 had been a culmination of new business development for me. With Amber Ludwig as my project manager, I gave more workshops in September, October and November than in all them months prior of 2008 combined.
Typically, January is a slow month around here. Part of me looks forward to the slowdown so that I can work on some of my own projects.
But, not this time! I expected first quarter 2009 to be busy, despite the fears of the economy. And, my expectations did not let me down!
Zig Ziglar, among others, says, “If you want to pursue a goal, you must put yourself in the position of already living the goal.”
If you want a 7500 sq. ft. house, pretend you already live in one.
If you want 3 months worth of vacations a year, begin planning what you will do with all of your time off.
January is either a time of excitement for people or a time of renewed let-downs. Meaning, you thought things might change after New Years and now realize they haven’t.
There are really only two choices you have in this case. You can allow yourself to be taken hostage by what you believe is holding you back from success.
Or, you can make a toast to the future and celebrate EVERY day as a continual pursuit of excitement and fulfillment.
The choice really is yours alone.
